PLASTIC AND COSMETIC SURGERY

FACIAL PROCEDURES

FACE LIFT (rhytidectomy) is a surgical procedure where excess facial skin is removed to reduce wrinkles, creases, and sagging jowls and cheeks. The traditional facelift is done by creating an incision in front of the ear and along the hairline where it cannot be seen. The skin on the face is then redraped, excess skin removed, and the cut sutured in a way that the scars will not be seen. The effect is a more youthful look through smoother skin. New developments in Facelift procedures include the MACSLift, (minimal access cranial suspension lift) and the Threadlift. Depending on a patients’ individual needs, a full facelift may not be necessary. Patients may opt for a midlift, a lower facelift, or chin lift.

The face lift may be an outpatient procedure. However, for a full facelift, the patient may need supervised care for one or two days after the lift itself. This may be done in special retreat facilities or a hotel room with a private nurse or trained caregiver. Swelling and bruising may take 1 – 2 weeks or even more to subside depending on the patient. Some patients do not wish to resume normal social activities until after 4 weeks. The full aesthetic results of the facelift are sometimes achieved after up to six months from the procedure.

BROW LIFT (browplasty) is a surgical procedure where drooping brows are elevated to smoothen brow lines, frown lines, and brow creases. In combination with eyelid surgery, it is also done to improve eyesight when drooping eyelids impede the sight.

The brow lift in an isolated procedure may take 1 – 2 hours as an outpatient clinic. General anesthesia is used, or local anesthesia with heavby sedation. Sutures and stapes will be removed from a week to ten days after the surgery. Normal daily activities may be resumed after a week to ten days, but swelling and bruising may persist for several weeks.

EYELID SURGERY (Blepharoplasty) is a surgical procedure used to remove the fatty tissues or excess tissues around the eyes. One may opt for upper eyelid surgery to open the eyes and improve eyesight, lower eyelid surgery for the minimization of eyebags, or both for total enhanced look. Eyelid surgeries are also done on Asian women to define the slits.

Blepharoplasty can be done in 1 – 2 hours in an isolated procedure as an outpatient using either local anaesthesia or iv sedation. Special care will be needed for 24 hours; stitches may be removed in 3 – 6 days, and women may wear make-up within a week to disguise swelling a bruising which may take 10 days to heal, depending on the patient.

NOSE LIFT (Rhinoplasty) is a surgical procedure that enhances the shape of the nose. This may be done to augment the tip of the nose (tiplasty), adjust the size of the nostrils (alarplasty), or simply to reshape the nose to better suit the face. Sometimes, bone infraction is necessary to decrease the size of the nose. Cartilage grafting and nasal implants are all classified under rhinoplasty.

The simplest of procedures may be done in an hour in as an outpatient using either local anesthesia or iv sedation. Stitches may be removed in 2 – 4 days, and the patient may resume normal activity in under a week.
